Product overview

What it does, and where it fits.

Where a lined steel spacer is unnecessary or too thick, a solid PTFE spacer does the same job in pure fluoropolymer. Being machined from solid stock it can be made very thin — down to 3 mm — which a lined steel item cannot, and it is inert on every surface.

The tapered form is used to compensate for flange misalignment, taking up a small angular error that would otherwise be transferred into the pipework as a bending load. Lengths run from 3 mm to 300 mm across the whole NB 1/2" to 16" range.

Features

Built into every unit.

  • Machined from solid PTFE to ASTM D 1457 — no steel body
  • From 3 mm to 300 mm long across NB 1/2" to 16"
  • Tapered form available to take up flange misalignment
  • Inert on every surface, inside and out

Benefits

Why it earns its place in the line.

  • Can be made far thinner than a lined steel spacer
  • Tapered form absorbs angular flange misalignment
  • Outstanding corrosion resistance to aggressive organic and inorganic chemicals across a wide temperature range
  • Non-stick, non-wetting bore — low surface energy keeps product moving and simplifies cleaning
  • Chemically inert and pure; no additives, plasticisers, stabilisers or lubricants to contaminate the process fluid
  • The lowest coefficient of friction of any solid, reducing pressure drop and deposit build-up

Applications & industries

Where it is specified.

Typical applications

  • Very thin make-up between lined flanges
  • Correcting angular flange misalignment with the tapered form
  • Isolating dissimilar metals at a flange joint
  • Shimming equipment nozzles to line level

FAQ

Questions we are asked about this item.

Taking up angular misalignment between two flanges. Without it the bolts pull the joint square and put a permanent bending load into the pipework and the liner.

Solid PTFE goes thinner (from 3 mm) and is inert on all faces. A lined steel spacer is stiffer and carries bolt load better in the larger bores and thicker sections.
