Product overview

What it does, and where it fits.

The lined spool pipe is the run element of a fluoropolymer lined pipeline. A seamless ASTM A 106 Gr. B carbon steel pipe carries the pressure and the mechanical load; a paste-extruded fluoropolymer liner, flared over both flange faces, carries the chemistry. The result is a line that takes the loads of a steel system while presenting only PTFE, PFA or FEP to the process fluid.

The standard build leaves the factory with one fixed flange and one lap-joint (loose) flange, which lets the installer rotate the loose flange to pick up bolt holes without twisting the spool or stressing the liner. Two fixed flanges or two loose flanges can be specified instead. Vent holes are drilled through the steel wall so that any permeated vapour escapes rather than collapsing the liner, and so that a liner breach shows itself at the pressure test.

Every spool is spark tested at 5000 V per millimetre of liner thickness up to 15 000 V, dimensionally checked against the tolerance table, and finished in zinc epoxy primer over grit-blasted steel.

FAQ

Questions we are asked about this item.

3000 mm face to face across the whole NB 1/2" to 16" range. Longer runs are made up from multiple spools; a jacketed spool can be supplied up to 6000 mm in the smaller bores.

They are vent holes, 3 mm in diameter. They stop back pressure building between the steel housing and the liner from permeated vapour, reveal a liner leak during the pressure test, and let any corrosion behind the liner be spotted early. Spools under 500 mm get one central hole; longer spools get two, about 150 mm from each end.

Generally no — the flared liner faces seal against each other. A gasket is required when a lined component is bolted to a different material, and when the joint is repeatedly assembled and dismantled.
