Product overview

What it does, and where it fits.

A Y-type strainer holds a screen in an angled leg below the flow path, so debris collects where it can be blown down or removed without dismantling the pipework. On corrosive duty the strainer is one of the most vulnerable items in a line — it is a cast body with an internal screen, full of crevices — which is why the lined version matters.

The body is a casting to ASTM A 216 Gr. WCB, the strainer element is PTFE to ASTM D 1457, and the lining is listed as ASTM D 3307 and ASTM D 4894-19. The catalogue marks PFA and FEP as applicable for the lining across the range.

Two dimensions are given: L, the face-to-face length, and H, the height over the strainer leg — the latter matters because it sets the clearance needed below the pipe to withdraw the screen.

Features

Built into every unit.

  • Angled screen leg — debris removed without dismantling the line
  • Cast body to ASTM A 216 Gr. WCB with fluoropolymer lining
  • PTFE strainer element to ASTM D 1457
  • NB 1" to 6", L 190 mm to 508 mm, H 128 mm to 450 mm
  • Stainless steel body and higher diameters on request

Benefits

Why it earns its place in the line.

  • Protects pumps, control valves, flow meters and sight glasses from debris
  • Screen withdrawn from the leg without breaking the main flanges
  • Outstanding corrosion resistance to aggressive organic and inorganic chemicals across a wide temperature range
  • Non-stick, non-wetting bore — low surface energy keeps product moving and simplifies cleaning
  • Chemically inert and pure; no additives, plasticisers, stabilisers or lubricants to contaminate the process fluid
  • The lowest coefficient of friction of any solid, reducing pressure drop and deposit build-up

Applications & industries

FAQ

Questions we are asked about this item.

The catalogue does not publish a mesh specification for this item. Tell us the particle size you need to retain and the acceptable pressure drop, and we will confirm the screen.

At least the H dimension — 128 mm at NB 1" up to 450 mm at NB 6" — so the screen can be withdrawn from the leg without disturbing the flanges.
