Product overview
What it does, and where it fits.
A butterfly valve puts a lined disc across the flow in a short, wafer-thin body. On larger bores it is far lighter, cheaper and shorter than a ball valve, which is why it dominates NB 4" and above, and its disc position gives usable throttling control as well as isolation.
This is the one valve in the range where the catalogue marks all three linings — PTFE, PFA and FEP — as applicable across every size. Its liner specification lists ASTM D 1457, ASTM D 3307 and ASTM D 4894-19.
Two height dimensions are published for each size: H1 to the top of the body and H2 overall, the latter being what you need for headroom and handwheel or actuator clearance.
Features
Built into every unit.
- Short, light body — a fraction of the weight and length of a ball valve at the same bore
- PTFE, PFA and FEP all available across the full NB 2" to 12" range
- Disc position gives throttling control as well as isolation
- Cast body to ASTM A 216 Gr. WCB
- H1 and H2 heights published for headroom and actuator clearance
Benefits
Why it earns its place in the line.
- Lightest and most compact lined isolation option on larger bores
- Usable for throttling as well as on/off duty
- Outstanding corrosion resistance to aggressive organic and inorganic chemicals across a wide temperature range
- Non-stick, non-wetting bore — low surface energy keeps product moving and simplifies cleaning
- Chemically inert and pure; no additives, plasticisers, stabilisers or lubricants to contaminate the process fluid
- The lowest coefficient of friction of any solid, reducing pressure drop and deposit build-up
Applications & industries
Where it is specified.
Typical applications
- Isolation and throttling on larger lined lines
- Tank and vessel outlet isolation
- High-purity duties where metal pick-up is unacceptable
- Effluent, scrubber and process-waste service
- Lines where exotic alloy valves are uneconomic
Industries served
- Chemical processing
- Pharmaceutical
- Petrochemical
- Oil & gas
- Power generation
- Pulp & paper
- Mining & metallurgy
- Agrochemicals & dyes

FAQ
Questions we are asked about this item.
That is how the catalogue marks it — PTFE, PFA and FEP are all shown applicable across NB 2" to 12", and the materials list gives ASTM D 1457, D 3307 and D 4894-19.
Yes. Disc position gives proportional control, which a ball valve does not do well. For fine control confirm the flow range with us so the disc characteristic suits the duty.
At least the H2 dimension — 120 mm at NB 2" to 299 mm at NB 12" — plus clearance for the handwheel, lever or actuator above it.
